
A study published by software firm Sendmail discovered that 56 per cent of companies have deployed components of their email system through virtualised technologies.
In addition, 38 per cent of respondents said that the mail store layer, which includes applications such as Microsoft Exchange, is the top component they have moved over to virtualised environments.
The poll also revealed that 21 per cent have virtualised their email archiving solutions, while 18 per cent have done this with the gateway filtering layer.
Stephanie Nevin, vice president of marketing and business development at Sendmail, said: 'Many companies are turning to virtualised solutions to cut messaging infrastructure costs and improve operations.'
IT industry analyst Gartner recently claimed that more firms will start to migrate their operating systems from Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 2000 to Windows 7 in the coming years.
