
During a visit to the city, culture minister Fiona Hyslop pointed out that the Scottish government remains committed to the sector, noting that software development companies Tag Games and Dynamo Games have received finance totalling almost £300,000 from the Digital Media IP Fund.
Ms Hyslop claimed that the Scottish creative industries have the potential to be a 'cornerstone' of the country's economic success, commenting: 'That is why, through initiatives like the Digital Media IP Fund, the Scottish government is supporting the sector to help it flourish and deliver jobs.'
The minister added that she will continue to lobby UK culture secretary Jeremy Hunt for a tax relief system for the computer games development industry.
In July, communications minister Ed Vaizey highlighted the support that the government has extended to the videogames industry, include a £2 million fund for small developers and the appointed of Ian Livingstone as the chair of the Skillset Games Council.
