The recent X-Force Security Threat report, published by IBM, claimed that products from Apple, Microsoft and Adobe Systems appear to be the most vulnerable to security threats.
Commenting on the research, Trend Micro solutions architect Rik Ferguson said that the last 12 to 18 months have seen a 'steady' rise in the number of threats targeted at Macs.
The expert claimed that the reason for this is because cybercriminals are seeking to identify any way they can to make money, explaining: 'If they see that the popularity of the Mac platform is such that it is worth creating malicious code for that platform then they'll do it.'
Mr Ferguson added that firms can reduce the risk of falling victim to malware by practicing safe computing, such as not clicking suspicious links sent through email and social networking websites.
