The Kelly Global Workforce Index, which polled around 134,000 employees including almost 6,000 based in the UK, found that 36 per cent of those not on performance-related pay believe they would be more productive if given the benefit.
Andrew Cook, interim country general manager at Kelly Services, commented: 'Many employees are actually quite comfortable about some element of their compensation being tied to their individual or group performance.'
However, it also showed that non-financial incentives can effectively motivate workers, as 54 per cent rated access to training as being important to them.
Additionally, 18 per cent said that they value being able to work flexible hours, nine per cent would like more personal time off and eight per cent are looking for retirement benefits.
Past research by PricewaterhouseCoopers found that flexible working is considered the most valuable employee benefit by staff in the UK.
