REC publishes 2009 complaints

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) dealt with an increasing number of complaints in 2009, it has been reported, which may show the importance of using a reputable recruitment agency.

A new report from the organisation showed that it handled 11 per cent more complaints last year than it did in 2008, with 40 per cent of the issues concerning REC members, recruiter.co.uk revealed.

In addition, the research showed that 24 per cent of complaints were raised by permanent jobseekers, 20 per cent came from temporary candidates, 15 per cent were issued by clients and the remaining 41 per cent stemmed from other groups such as recruitment agencies and the REC.

The report added that 47 per cent of the issues were concerned with financial matters such as holiday pay, although other problems included customer care, false advertising and unprofessional conduct, the website reported.

Last week, the REC announced that it is looking at ways to improve the qualifications offered through its Academy for Business to drive up standards in the recruitment industry.
