New govt 'should look to REC manifesto'

The next government should attempt to focus on the UK's flexible jobs market, public sector reform and economic growth, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has claimed.

While the three main political parties wrangle a deal to resolve the hung parliament, the group drew attention to the issues it placed in its current manifesto.

Kevin Green, chief executive of the REC, commented: 'Whoever forms the next government must deliver the right economic climate for business to create the prosperity and jobs our country needs.'

Mr Green also said a leading priority for the next government must be to reduce the deficit, but this could be balanced against the need to reform public services.

In addition, he claimed that the delays created by the hung parliament will affect the official guidance and potential reviews of the Agency Work Regulations.

The REC manifesto, which was published last month, also called on the political parties to avoid increasing the tax burdens on UK companies, such as the proposed rise in national insurance contributions.
