Writing in the Gloucestershire Times, personal life coach Susan Britt recommended that people considering new jobs should set up informal interviews with professionals currently working in the industry.
She explained that this will allow candidates to gather information about the nature of the work, the companies which are active in the sector and the conditions which are found in the industry.
'There is much less performance pressure for you in this type of interviewing, because you would be conducting the interviewing rather than the reverse,' the expert added.
Ms Britt also advised people conducting information interviews to prepare a thorough list of questions which will be able to keep the other person talking about their job for a length of time.
Last month, careers expert Cheryl Morgan recommended that IT job candidates should have a smart and professional appearance when being interviewed.
