
A poll of 1,475 executives carried out by Interim Partners found that 29.7 per cent of respondents believe Whitehall should award more contracts to external service providers as a matter of priority.
In addition, 21 per cent of the interim executives surveyed claimed that the government should increase its investment in IT projects with the ultimate aim of reducing headcounts.
Doug Baird, managing director of Interim Partners, said: 'However deeply the next government decides to cut public sector spending, savings need to be balanced against service quality.'
He also claimed that interim executives' experience in bringing in cost-cutting measures during the recession should make their opinion worthwhile to the government.
