According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation's (REC's) latest JobsOutlook report, 88 per cent of the country's firms said they will maintain or increase their use of temporary workers over the next quarter.
In addition, one-third of employers said they will keep or expand their use of agency staff in the long term.
REC director of research Roger Tweedy commented: 'The current demand for agency workers is spearheading the jobs market and again reinforces the importance of a flexible workforce while the economic recovery continues.'
The report also showed that 96 per cent of employers intend to maintain or grow their permanent workforces in the coming year, while a falling number think they will be forced to make redundancies.
Meanwhile, the Office for National Statistics revealed that the number of people unemployed in the UK increased by 53,000 in the three months to March to reach 2.51 million.
