According to the Report on Jobs, published by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and professional services firm KPMG, the number of permanent staff appointments rose last month at the rate last reported in October 1997.
In addition, short-term staff appointment growth accelerated to the strongest pace seen for 34 months.
REC chief executive Kevin Green claimed that the news suggests a degree of recovery is occurring in the UK jobs market and shows how short-term workers are supporting the economy.
'A rise in both temporary and contract work at the sharpest rate for nearly three years shows how they continue to provide vital flexibility for UK businesses,' he explained.
On April 29th, the REC will present a speech at the Managing a Temporary Workforce conference, which will argue that contract workers are allowing firms to follow streamline their resourcing strategies while still offering frontline services.
