REC examining Agency Workers Regulations priorities

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) is continuing its campaign to ensure the rollout of the Agency Workers Regulations 2010 is as smooth as possible.

In a recent meeting with senior officials from the European Commission and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the organisation discussed the priorities which need to be addressed before the rules are implemented in October 2011.

Tom Hadley, director of external relations at the REC, added: 'The REC's in-house legal team is preparing detailed opinions on the priority areas flagged up by members and we will be looking for these 'hot topics' to be addressed in the government's official guidance.'

The group suggested that areas such as how the 12-week derogation period included in the rules is calculated and how firms will need to change their relationships with umbrella companies are considered.

He also claimed that the interpretation of the Agency Workers Regulations could be subject to a more thorough review if the Conservative Party forms the next government after May 6th.

Earlier this month, the REC debated the rollout of the Agency Workers Regulations in a roundtable discussion with the European Commission's Labour Law Unit and other countries' employment groups.
