
In the Labour Party's 2010 manifesto, which was launched earlier this week, it was pledged that paternity leave will be increased from two weeks at full pay to one month.
Commenting on the proposal, Confederation of British Industry director of employment policy Katja Hall said it is 'right', as it reflects the change in traditional caring roles which is being seen in society.
She also said the move would allow families to be more flexible in their childcare responsibilities, but stressed the need for this to be communicated effectively to employers.
'Businesses do their best to support flexible working styles and will adapt to new challenges, as long as the plans reflect employers' need for clarity and certainty,' Ms Hall added.
