A new study commissioned by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) suggested that it is a good for companies that the supply of IT skilled workers is outstripping demand, as it will make it easier for them to increase their investment in technology once the economy starts to recover.
The report also revealed that there is a growing need for workers who possess SQL, C#, .NET and Linux skills, after demand for these employees rose for two successive quarters.
Jeff Brooks, chair of REC Technology, said: 'It is very encouraging to see that companies will still invest in technology to develop their businesses even when there is a tough economic landscape.'
In addition, the study showed that were 1,041,000 IT professionals in the UK at the end of 2009, which is a four per cent decrease on the level reported at the close of the previous year.
Employment expert Alex Farrell recently claimed that 'real growth' can now be seen in the IT recruitment industry as the economic climate improves.
