
A report on insideline.com claimed that the luxury sports car manufacturer will attempt to remedy the CO2 emissions and uncompetitive fuel consumption of its models by looking at eco-friendly alternatives.
The news provider also suggested that Maserati is likely to use the research that is being carried out by Fiat bedmate Ferrari, which recently unveiled the experimental 599 hybrid at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show.
'Of all of Fiat's auto brands, it is Ferrari whose cars are conceptually closest to Maserati's in hardware terms,' the source added.
Furthermore, the website claimed that Maserati is looking to reduce the weight of its current vehicles, as they are known being 'hefty for their type'.
The Ferrari 599 hybrid was designed in the hope that the manufacturer will be able to meet future CO2 emissions standards, especially for urban environments where drivers can be penalised for using polluting models.
