
Recent research by IT industry analyst Ovum found one-third of chief information officers think their budgets will be increased during the coming year, but the average rise is likely to be between one and five per cent.
Ovum senior analyst Patrick O'Brien claimed that IT outsourcing will mainly be used by companies looking to reduce their costs in the economic recovery and increase their flexibility to retain customers and bring in new business
He also pointed out that firms decreased their use of IT outsourcing during the recession as they were reluctant to enter into long-term contracts, but this is likely to change as confidence returns.
'I really do expect in 2010 for outsourcing to pick up. The markets already expect that as well, judging by the fact that the share prices of outsourcing companies have outperformed the general market over the last six months,' he commented.
Last year, the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals suggested the rise of cloud computing will increase the flexibility of outsourced IT services and allow firms to achieve better value for money when using them.
