Adrian Marlowe, chairman of the Association of Recruitment Consultants, explained that his group's members have reported a recent rise in demand for skilled IT workers.
He commented: 'I think that having laid low for 18 months or so, those organisations that have larger IT requirements are taking the view that they need to upgrade their systems.'
Mr Marlowe claimed that the demand has been particularly strong in financial services firms, as they have started to boost the recruitment efforts in recent months and are looking to improve their IT infrastructure.
However, he added that it may be too soon to tell whether the surge in demand for IT jobs is the start of a long-lasting trend or a temporary situation.
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation and professional services provider KPMG recently saw that growth in permanent staff placements increased in February at the fastest rate since July 2007.
