Security software firm BitDefender explained at Win32.Worm.Mabezat.J has recently been hidden in messages disguised as legitimate job opportunities.
The firm warned that emails containing the virus often use headings such as 'Web designer vacancy', 'Welcome to your new work or 'We are hiring you' and includes a zipped file called winmail.dat that hides the malware.
When the virus infects a computer, it has the ability to destroy binary and system files, as well as collect email addresses from a variety of formats
BitDefender senior researcher Catalin Cosoi said: 'In order to stay safe, computer users should ensure that they have installed a complete antimalware suite with antivirus, antispam, antiphishing and firewall protection.'
Last week, Trend Micro senior security advisor Rik Ferguson claimed that cybercriminals are focusing their attacks on popular social networks because these give them access to large numbers of potential victims.
