According to the Antal Global Snapshot report, 55 per cent of companies in western and eastern Europe, Africa, India, China and the US intend to hire new staff in the next three months, which could be positive news for those considering changing IT jobs.
In addition, the study found that 53 per cent of firms are currently hiring, increasing from 50 per cent in the autumn of last year, while in the UK this proportion stands at 59 per cent.
Tony Goodwin, chief executive of Antal, commented: 'We are most certainly not 'out of the woods' as yet and there may be more unpleasant economic surprises to come but it does seem as if organisations of all sizes are approaching 2010 with more confidence.'
The report also showed that the IT software sector has the fourth highest level of recruitment at professional and managerial level, following pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and engineering.
Recent research from professional services firm Towers Watson found that the majority of European firms plan on taking on new employees in 2010.
