The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has launched a new practical guide for firms looking to fill their IT job vacancies with help from social networking platforms.
In the Social Media in Recruitment resource, it is noted that LinkedIn is the most popular professional social network and has 2.5 million users based in the UK, while 29.4 million people use at least one social networking website.
Roger Tweedy, director of research at the REC, commented: 'Social media is now a major communication channel for so-called generations X and Y, so it's imperative that the recruitment industry harnesses the opportunities it brings.'
He also claimed that firms can access large candidate pools and locate new talent by branching out into social media recruitment.
Recently, recruitment expert Felix Wetzel predicted that more companies will examine IT jobs candidates' online profiles as part of their selection processes.
