Leigh Geary from CoolSmartPhone.com claimed that most smartphone users increasingly want 24-hour access to data services and do not want to feel like they have to disconnect immediately after browsing the internet.
'Mobile networks are slowly realising that data is crucial to selling many handsets now. The phone should be connected to the web all the time, end of story,' he stated.
Mr Geary also told IT jobs candidates that innovations such as instant email, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter have ingrained the internet in people's lives and led to expectation of constant, mobile access.
Recent research from IT industry analyst IDC revealed that 54.5 million smartphones were shipped in the last three months of 2009, representing a 39 per cent increase on the level recorded in the previous year.
Ramon Llamas, senior research analyst with IDC's mobile devices technology and trends team, said this is because users want more than telephony and messaging from the mobile devices.
