According to January's Report on Jobs, published by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and professional services provider KPMG, the number of permanent staff placements with recruitment consultancies rose for the sixth month in a row.
The study showed that the rate of growth was slower than the peak seen in December, but was still a significant improvement when compared to conditions during the recession.
In addition, the report revealed that there was strong growth seen in the temporary/contract job market, with expansion only just below that experienced in December - which was a two-and-a-half year high.
Bernard Brown, partner and head of business services at KPMG, said: 'The UK jobs market is continuing its journey back to health.'
The recent Antal Global Snapshot report revealed that 55 per cent of firms in western and eastern Europe, Africa, India, China and the US plan on hiring new staff in the next three months.
