Innovation 'needed for senior positions'

Companies look for certain qualities when recruiting executive-level employees, chief information officer applicants have been reminded.

Andrew Robinson, head of human resources operations at Henderson Global Investors, pointed out that the exact specification will be dependant on each job description, but some traits are commonly looked for.

He said that executive-level candidates need to have developed a good reputation in the industry and have ideas on how to drive the organisation forward.

In addition, the expert recommended that applicants show they have adventurous plans for developing the potential of their teams and the whole company.

'This can include challenging the status quo and looking for more creative solutions or strong ideas for business development,' Mr Robinson explained.

He added that candidates need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, to prove they will be able to inspire their staff to work towards their aims.

Recent research from industry analyst Gartner found that 62 per cent of chief executives believe that IT will be an important element of their post-recession strategy.
