'In a market which is difficult and competitive, candidates also have a duty to make themselves flexible rather than expecting the employer to be flexible,' he explained.
The expert also pointed out information on vacancies tends to be spread out in various sources, which means people have to be dedicated when searching for them or using an IT recruitment agency.
Mr Huxham added that one of the common barriers stopping people from finding a new job is a lack of skills, so candidates should ensure they are applying for positions which suit their abilities or consider retraining.
The Keep Britain Working campaign group recently claimed that scattered nature of information about job openings and a lack of flexible opportunities are some of the main things stopping people finding new jobs.
