A poll by BT Global Services revealed that a quarter of leaders think that cutting IT budgets in the recession has reduced innovation, while 23 per cent say it has prevented them from securing new business.
Furthermore, 61 per cent of chief information officers (CIOs) claimed that their firm's ability to operate in global markets has been damaged by an ageing IT infrastructure, while 57 per cent said that the same effect is caused by inadequate software.
'This research provides a snapshot into the current mindset of global CIOs and senior executives, and it will hopefully act as a spur to action on key issues,' said BT Global Services chief executive Hanif Lalani.
Jim Elkin, a consultant at Analysys Mason, recently predicted that investment in IT will become even more important in the post-recession business climate.
